Interfere between the same channel

Hello, In one building, most of time we can find several SSID signals on the same channel when using InSSIDer. Do you think they would interfere with other? however we could not find the interfere. Why ? Thanks

Depends on the signal strength of the AP’s on the same channel. You need to really look at channel utilization which is the key factor on user experience.

I had experiences where there were a lot familys living in the same building and using their own wireless router. When we checked own PC, we could see a lot ssid signals, but they never interfere each other.

So, based on what you said above, the ssid signal having the same channel and the same strength would interfere with each other, is that right?

SSID’s on the same channel and the same signal strength “can” affect your RF reliability/performance. You can do much when you don’t control the air. It’s the same issue companies have in a downtown shared tenant building.

Hi,

There is not interference occurs in AP channel even there are 100 APs in same building. first think channels are independent of SSIDs. there is no relation of SSID with channel AP channel changes by looking their neighbor or adjacent APs. this is controlled by WLC which asign channel dynamically to LWAP and prevent from interference to each other

You mean that AP are in autonomous mode?

In LWAP, we do not need to take care of the issue because WLC will do it, right? Thanks

There is a difference between your own wireless vs other wireless. Other wireless being any not controllered by your controller. Cisco WLC uses RRM to make the best decision on channel and power, but it doesn’t mean that other wireless networks that also use the same channels will not interfere or cause channel utilization.
