Dears,

I have changed the lightweight AP to Cisco Mobility Express Autonomous AP, it converted successfully and I can see the Cisco Controller> prompt I want the these as an AP to work as an autonomous AP how I can get the configure terminal command to configure other SSID and radio' for the AP as such we get for another AP.

That is correct... but it's not autonomous. The AP supports ME (Mobility Express) so it's a controller inside the AP that works by itself or with other ME AP's. Look at the Mobility Express guide to understand how to convert it from lightweight to Mobility Express. The guide will then explain the steps to get the ME AP setup.

Dear Scott,

I want as per the attached i.e operating mode AP only instead of AP& Controller. how I can to do that?? I have 10 no's of AP so for 2 of them I will convert as a master and backup but for rest of them I need them to be only AP operating mode.

I have seen the conversion method in the deployment guide that will convert all the AP to operating mode AP& Controller as I tried with 2 no's of my AP's.

thanks

The first AP that you bring

The first AP that you bring up will always be AP + Controller (master). This AP will manage all the configuration and also serve clients. All other AP's you bring up after will be AP only since they will join the master controller, the first aP that takes the master role.

Just setup this AP as is and configure it how you want it. If you are looking for a true "autonomous" AP that you can setup via CLI like the 3x02's, 2x02 or 1x02's as an example, you bought the wrong AP for that.

what I'm trying to explain is that the AP you have is not an automous AP, but you can use it as A standalone AP, however it is a controller based AP.

Dear Scott,

Really appreciate for your replies, yes I m not looking for true Autonomous AP but as you said we can use it as A standalone AP, however it is a controller based AP.

this is what I m trying to do, I m connecting the other AP and these should reach to the master AP, how I should make them reachable as they have come from factory with CAPWAP image ??

according to the deployment guide I am following "Adding an Access Point to Mobility Express Network" i have downloaded a zip package AIR-AP1850-K9-8.2.141.0 and kept in root folder of the tftp when i boot the new AP in the same vlan it should get the master AP and ME image and it should register with Master AP ,

Please correct me if i m doing wrong

Need to convert the AP:

AP Image Type: MOBILITY EXPRESS IMAGE
AP Configuration: NOT MOBILITY EXPRESS CAPABLE

This means that the AP has the Cisco Mobility Express software, but is running as a CAPWAP lightweight AP.
This AP is currently not configured to run as Mobility Express controller, does not take part in the master AP election process either, and hence does not broadcast the the CiscoAirProvision SSID. This AP can, however, function as a subordinate AP in a Mobility Express network.
To enable the Mobility Express controller functionality of this AP, run the command ap-type mobility-express tftp on the AP console. The AP will reboot, come back online, and take part in the master AP election process. If and when it is elected as master, it will broadcast the CiscoAirProvision SSID.

Dear Scott,

OK got it what you trying to explain,

so i am on a correct path with a proper set up for an SMB i have done setup of 2 no's AP as a Master and Backup (acting as an controller) those will be seen as a

AP Image type : MOBILITY EXPRESS IMAGE
AP Configuration : MOBILITY EXPRESS CAPABLE

And the others which are only AP for them it will be seen as a

AP Image type : MOBILITY EXPRESS IMAGE
AP Configuration : NOT MOBILITY EXPRESS CAPABLE

Thanks

This AP can join the master:

This AP can join the master:

AP Image type : MOBILITY EXPRESS IMAGE
AP Configuration : NOT MOBILITY EXPRESS CAPABLE

So as long as you have the master up and running and the other AP on the same subnet, the non-master should join. You just need to get the master configured and you should be good to go.

Dear Scott,

Now there is a new change i faced,, i setup a master and then i set up a another AP with the same image of master.

i went in to first ap master and entered a command config ap next-preferred-master <Cisco AP> and reload to take effect. The second AP became a primary and the second became Only AP, how i can have a secondary Master incase of primary failure.

thanks

Dear Scott,

Please correct me if i m wrong,

The Make me Controller button is available only for subordinate APs that are capable of participating in the Master Election process.

I don't see any make me controller button on my access point ?? how i can verify the AP are my subordinates.

also pls correct me from the below paragraph what i understand is i cannot have a primary and secondary together , only primary is active when the primary fails then only the newly election occurs and the newly elected AP will be become the Master.

To perform a forced failover using CLI, use the following command:

config ap next-preferred-master cisco-ap-name forced-failover

When you force the failover of the master to an AP of your choice, using the GUI or CLI methods, the current master AP reboots while the new AP takesover as the controller, with the IP address and configuration as the previous master. The previous master, after rebooting, comes back online and joins the new master AP as a subordinate AP.

All AP's need to be joined to

All AP's need to be joined to the master controller in order to function in the ME network. Once that is done, AP's that are supported and have both mobility images can be the master or a standby.

I don't know why you don't have Make me Controller Button if you have met all the requirements as a supported ME master/backup.

Bring up the AP you want to be a master first and then bring up all the other AP's later. This way now the AP you want as master is the master and then verify that all other AP's have joined and is working.
