topic Wireless QOS options?? in Wireless

Hello All,

We have a Cisco 5508 wireless controller centralized wireless build out with all of our offices using hreap/flex connect. We are about to begin a Lync enterprise voice pilot in one of our offices and we are wondering what our options are for setting up QOS on the one offices switches and APs to ensure the Lync voice traffic gets QOS priority.

Is anyone here on the forums familiar with what options we have regarding this roll out?

Any insight or feedback would be great.

Thank you.

Rgds,

Microsoft Lync Server 2013 does not require Quality of Service; if you do not currently use QoS there is no requirement that you install the service before installing Lync Server 2013

Yeah right Microsoft!

My experience with Lynx/Skype

My experience with Lynx/Skype for Business is it is very brain dead in this area. The ability for it to mark its packets so you can do something with them is very limited. You will probably have to try marking the packets yourself based on the source/destination IP addresses being used on the switch edges.

Not sure how you will handle that on WiFi.

Microsoft recommends you put in bigger and bigger pipes if you have issues ... what a crap solution that is.

You have to think QoS/WMM in

You have to think QoS/WMM in both directions.

UPSTREAM leaving the laptop you need to config the registry of the devices

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj205076(v=ocs.15).aspx

DOWNSTREAM you could use AVC on the WLC, but would need to check about HREAP / AVC, Ive never done it AVC and HREAP.

Hi Mohanak,

Hi Mohanak,

If I am understanding this, we can add QOS to our WLC for Lync voice without having to push the QOS settings to our other SSIDs, correct? Our desire is to only implement QOS in the office where Lync EV is being rolled out.

Correct?

Hello,

Hello,

We want to test out the AVC profile on our WLC. It looks like we can basically enable and test, then simply uncheck the enable box under WLANS>Edit QOS tab if we want to disable the QOS on the WLAN.

Is that correct or am I missing something here?

Also, is there any downtime when we go to add the AVC profile to the WLC? Currently we do not have one set up.

We support almost 300 APs on our WLC and I want to know if there are any gotchas involved in us test driving QOS for a Lync EV pilot.

Please let me know if you do.

Thank you.
