How do I enable 802.11k on Cisco 5508 running 8.0.120.0

Hello,

I just upgraded a 5508 WLC to 8.0.120.0 and I have clients that are starting to have issues roaming from AP to AP using Apple / MAC devices. How do I check to see if 802.11k is enabled on the controller and what would be the best practices to implement the protocol to help users.

Things I think I know.....

I understand this is a protocol that is enabled globally per WLAN

You can only enable and disable this in CLI on most software versions.

Things I need to know.....

Do you have to enable the assisted roaming floor-bias too?

Do you have to enable the dual-band list as well?

Any help would be appreciated.

Listed below are the recommended WLC configuration commands for 802.11k using CLI. There is no GUI config for 802.11k:

WLAN neighbor list Enable/Disable: This is to enable or disable the neighbor list from the WLC and also the RRM and Power Constraint Information Elements (IEs) on the APs.

config wlan assisted-roaming neighbor-list {enable|disable} wlanId

WLAN neighbor list dual-band response Enable/Disable: This is to enable or disable the neighbor list including entries for both radio bands. Default is the band in which the client is currently associating.

config wlan assisted-roaming dual-list {enable|disable} wlanId

Prediction list based assisted roaming Enable/Disable: This is to enable or disable the assisted roaming capabilities with a roaming optimization predict list. A warning will be printed out, and load-balancing will be disabled for the WLAN if load balancing is already enabled on the same WLAN.

config wlan assisted-roaming prediction {enable|disable} wlanId

Hello Rasika,

I would like to ask you for a specific question. It is better to use client load balancing or use Assisted roaming Prediction Optimization? Both cannot be enabled together.
