Minimum Separation between 3600 series AP

Hi,

I have a scenario of a small lecture type class room capable of seating 100 students. The room size is 10 X 15 meters by dimension.

I was going to propose 2 APs in that room purely for client density purpose. Is there a minimum separation distance best practice around this type of deployments where more 3602i APs can be deployed to increase client density in the lecture room?

Do you have any experience around this type of deployments?

Is there any recommended minimum separation between 2 Aps?

If you have a WLC, I have done a deployment of 3 metres apart.

DCA & TPC are enabled so the WLC sorts the channel and power.

I would typically place one on opposite sides of the room.

Errrr ... Nope.

I had a requirement to cater for up to 100 people in a converted gym. Put two APs 3 metres apart and two more APs on the other side.

Made sure DCA and TPC are set to automatic.

I have my AP's on top of each other at home. The reason you want to seperation them is so you have a different rf footprint for users or else the signal will look the same for the client devices.

I've done very similar designs.

Some other things you could consider
* enable load balance (test it anyway)
* insure your wired side switch port is full duplex
* enable both the 2.4 and 5 ghz radios on the aps

As per your query i can suggest you the following solution-

Please keep a distance of approx 5m between the APs and place them opposite to each other.Also make sure to enable 2.4 and 5 Ghz radios on both AP's.

Thanks All for yout input. I have this APs deployed with spacing of about 4m. Works fine . no issues. Since the APs are close, the TPC is set automatically to 8 and RF footprint is all smaller, which works well for high density small rooms.

David,

A power level that low might not have any clients associated to that AP. You might want to set the TX power level to like 5-6 in rooms that have two AP's or more that might be close to each other. You can set the TX max and min on the WLC and set the min to 5dbi or 8dbi, so that the WLC will not drop the power too low.
