Hello,

This is the first time I use the forum.

Our deployment has the average of 900 users, 110 Access Points and 6 controllers.

We´re using access points 1131AG, 4402-25 Controllers and code version 7.0.98.0.

The majority of our users have 3COM PCI a/b/g card using Atheros drivers, but they stopped selling it and we had to look for a new one that support a/b/g, our choice was Linksys WMP600N a/b/g/n card, and unfortunately our problems began.

The issue is:

Ping spike - inttermitent delays of 2000ms/3000ms.

IPCommunicator mute call - When the user is talking to someone using IPCommunicator, the call is mute for 2 or 3 seconds.

I´ve been reading many forums and found some people saying the solved this problem adjusting the card with these parameters:

Set Beacon Interval to 75 in the router or access point.

                Set Fragmentation Threshold to 2304

                Set RTS Threshold to 2304

                Set Frame Aggregation to on

                Set Gaming/Multimedia Environment to on

Source: http://homecommunity.cisco.com/t5/Wireless-Adapters/PING-SPIKE-issue-SOLVED-if-you-have-ping-spikes-this-is-probably/m-p/280275?comm_cc=APACen&comm_lang=en#M22789

This is the list of things I tried in troubleshooting:

I´ve tried most of these parameters metioned above, in combination, couple of them, all of them without success.

I also tried to change WLAN and WLC global parameters such as:

I tried to change scan defer from 100ms to 1000ms.

I tried to upgrade de driver to the radio manufactor (RALINK) and nothing, the non official driver.

I also tried to change beaconperiod from 100 to 500 in the WLC, using the command - config 802.11b beaconperiod 500 and config 802.11a beaconperiod 500. I tested using 802.11a and 802.11g and the issue happens using both radios.

I tried to use the RALINK wireless manager and solved this issue, but our worskation policy does not support it, and we prefer using the WZC because they authenticate using PEAP using the windows workstation SID, and definitely WCZ is the best way for our enviroment.

There is one thing i´m sure that cause this issue:

Everytime I go to the WCZ icon and refresh F5 or click on the wireless refresh list the ping spike happen.

Now I configured RTS Treshold and Fragmentation Treshold equal to the WLC settings, Installed the Linksys last driver but he issue still happen.

Could the cause of this problem realated to the beacon interval or windows automatic network list refresh?

The SSID broadcast is not configured for this WLAN.

Does anyone can help to solve this issue?

Regards

All those settings are not related to me.

Moroever looking for a solution when you don't know what the exact problem is, is quite pointless.

The ping is not a reliable test and you will often see ping delays with wireless clients, it all depends on the sleeping habit of the client.

The Ipcommunicator issue is a common "voice gap" issue. It can be too much traffic/interference on the wireless. It can be the lack of QoS for IPcommunicator traffic, etc ...

a wireless sniffer trace usually clarifies the situation

Hi Nicolas,

Everything to see with driver version.

I mentioned in the previous post that the Linksys 2009 driver didn´t solved the problem, but it does fix.

The voice problem it fixes, but the ping inttermiten delay of 2000ms/3000ms it does not fix.

Using RALINK driver (release2010) I could not even update the network list in windows XP, WZC wireless list.

I checked multimedia/gaming and frame aggregation using 2009 Linksys driver and fixed.

This card is horrible, its signal is horrible, really horrible!

Regards.
