The 7920 doesn't downshift rates for retransmissions. It will use the highest rate enabled when on call and the lowest basic rate when in idle.

So need to ensure you have 100% coverage of the highest rate enabled on the AP.

The 7921 on the other hand can downshift rates. We do not recommend to enable rates below 11 mbps due to reductions in throughput and capacity. But in some cases, this is not an issue and range is more important.

Hey Folks,

We are running two 4404 running 4.2.61 with approx 120 7920s. Some spots in the building MAY not have as much coverage as we like. (not many places).

The phones are running 3.02 firmware.

EAP-FAST auth against ACSv4.0

Currently we have all data-rates below 11mbs disabled. Would enabling 5.5mbs increase the range of these phones? What are the adverse affects by doing this? We will soon be adding and possibly replacing these with the 7921Gs.

TIA
