BROADCAST TRAFFIC PROBLEM

After installing the new firmware release in Cisco Aironet 1200 Access Point version 12.3(2)JA , we came up with a problem that occurs in broadcast traffic.

The Access point doesnt forward the broadcast packets transmitted by the station. This problem didnt exist in previous version of firmware (12.2-15-JA)

Any suggestion?

what are the settings of your AP? i dont feel that there shud be a problem with firmware. did u try reverting to the previous one . did it work once again

Hello ashish.

I've already tried with the previous firmware and it worked.

The settings are the default of Cisco. I use wep 128 encryption with open authentication.

I have perfomed the tests with wireless cards of three different vendors and all of them had the same perfomance. (These tests are perfomed for WHQL)

What is your problem with 12.3.2ja exactly. I opened a case with not being able to a DHCP IP address on some AP's.. rebooted and it worked for a while. I opened case 600716875. I got radio core files. Look in your flash to see if you see a .rcore file?

If you havent yet.. open a TAC case so cisco can get this resolved.

I can confirm that I am having the same problem. I am running C1100 APs with 12.2(15)JA and have noticed that DHCP requests fail after the network has been online for a day or so. We are also running WEP, TKIP, Key Rotation, and OPEN authentication. I can see the DHCP request from a workstation hit the server, an offer go back to the client, and the client never sees the offer. The only way to clear the problem is to power down the APs and bring the wireless network back up. -=Phil=-

Did you look in your flash to see if a .rcore file is written ? It is a radio core file. If you still have the code running Cisco would love to work with you to run some commands before you reload the AP. I had to revert back to 12.2.15xr2.

I checked flash and saw no .rcore file. I will be glad to work with Cisco to get the issue resolved, just let me know what I need to do. We still have the code running, but I need to resolve the issue fairly quickly.

Please bear in mind that I am in Baghdad, Iraq so there an there is a 11 hour time difference if we need to get on the phone.

We know how to recreate the problem. I update the release notes of CSCsa44872. For those who do not have access to bug toolkit, below is the updated release notes:

Symptons: When an Cisco APs are running IOS version 12.3(2)JA, clients are unable to receive DHCP assigned IP address

Condition: VLANs are configured on the AP. Wireless clients are associating to any non-native VLAN. The AP drops the DHCP offer from the DHCP server if the DHCP offer frame is a broadcast. Usually, this occurs when the wireless clients and the DHCP server are on the same broadcast domain (i.e. same VLAN)

Workaround :

1. Downgrade to IOS revision 12.2(15)XR2

2. Configure "ip helper-address" on a router on the same VLAN as the DHCP and wireless clients. Note that a PIX cannot be a workaround.

There has been much reference to the DHCP broadcast in regards to this bug. I would like to clarification if this is DHCP specific or all broadcast packets in general.

We reproduce this problem with STATIC ip. It isn't only a DCHCP problem but in all broadcast packets.

Hi,

I have the same problem on my AP1200 and AP1100 as well. Since I upgraded to 12.3(2)JA the radio indicator LED stays on, Changed back to 12.2.15 XR2 and the turned off. Back again to 12.3(2)JA and the radio indicator led on both AP's stayed on. I don't have DHCP problems, Everything works but this is strange, not ?
