Vwlc Lan small scale virt 60 days evaluation release 8.5.151 web management not working

Hi Guys,

Just downloaded the suggested release vWLV evaluation image AIR_CTVM-K9_8_5_151_0.ova and installed it. The funny thing is: i cannot enter the web management of the vWLC in this release.

I am able to ping the gateway and the windows server so the connection works well. I even did a config certificate generate webadmin and webauth, because of a message i noticed in the end of the bootup that there is no valid web certificate.

(this is just reference to a self signed cert i guess).

After a restart and later a reboot the webadmin still failing.

I removed the 8.5vWlc and downloaded the vWLC evaluation image 8.0.140 with the same setup and works very good, so the issue must be the 8.5 software.

Does anybody else experienced this issue on a vWLC 8.5.151 with a non evaluation version?

Why don’t you try a different version of 8.5 or get one to work and then upgrade?

Thanks for the reply.

Yes that was also my plan but will cost unnecessary a lot of time to do so.

It's just for some test and should be easy to get the stuff running, but this is my first virtual controller and just wondering why the software is suggested and not working well.

8.0.140 will do for the moment and if there's some time left, do some updates towards 8.5.151 to see where is goes wrong.

How I see it, I wouldn’t be trying to install a version to get it to work. Finding a good version and using that to test is simple. If. You are planning on going with 8.5, then. You should upgrade or find an 8.5 version that works, this way your testing what you need to test. I was never a fan of the vWLC.

I am remembering that I had the same problem with 8.5.151.0, using https, I could not enter with correct login and password, but using http worked fine. This happened with Chrome, but with Firefox I think it did work with https. After upgrading to 8.5.160.0 it works fine.

Thanks for your reply and confirming the issue with this version.

I cannot use 8.5.160 , because i want to use it with flexconnect with an AP 2800 and seems to have some issue's with this combo:

For AP1800/2800/3800 with Flexconnect local switching Deployments, Please continue to use 8.5.151.0 Images

So i'll use a lower version like 8.5.140. as what Scott suggested.

He's not a fan of vWLC and now i know why 😉

Using a suggested release is not a warranty for a good working vWLC's.

You never know what works in your environment. Gold code later can be removed because of issues. That is why you should always have a test plan and run a diff on the code every time you upgrade to make sure nothing has changed.
