That’s will work and is a process I have used. You have verified that the AP’s can failover which is good. I would push the new code on to both wlc and then on the primary, you push the image to the AP’s. While that is happening, reboot the secondary wlc so that is boots from the new image. Then move your AP’s strategically to the secondary.

Hi guys,

i have 2 cisco 2504 deployed in N+1 setup. Primary controller is having 60 AP License and secondary have 5 AP License ( As per Cisco, they recommends in N+1 setup, secondary WLC should have atleast 5 AP Licenses)

Currently 55 APs are associated to Primary WLC.

i have already tested failover in this setup , by rebooting Primary one all 55 APs associated to secondary WLC.

But here i have a question that can we shift 10-15 APs on secondary WLC??

Purpose is we are going to upgrade both WLC to new 8.5.151 image. We will first upgrade secondary WLC , And then will move APs from Primary to secondary in batchwise (sitewise), So after associating all APs on secondary will upgrade Primary WLC.

Can any one have idea on this approch?
