HI!

We have a WLC 2504 (7.0.252.0) with 3 x CAP3501i and 4 x AP1231G. We need more 2 x AP's.

Challenge: buy more AP's but "try" to still use the old AP1231G. The newer AP's dont support 7.0.252.0 and the AP1231G dont support 8.5.

After some research, my more cost efective solution, was buy a new WLC 3504 for the newer AP's and somehow "interconnect" both WLC's.

Upgrading the WLC 2504 to 8.5 would make the AP1231G's not work.

Do you have any other ideas or options ? i dont have experience managing a network across several WLC's, have to repeat the same configs ? can i use the 3504 as a master and 2504 have the same WLAN's MAC filtering etc ?

Thanks

Best solution is to replace old APs (1231) and buy new one.....if not then:

Option1:

1. Buy 2 X 3504 for HA AP/Client SSO and conenct the newer APs to these controller by using AP Authorization.

2. Use old WLC 2504 for old APs by using AP Authorization.

AP Auth example:https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/4400-series-wireless-lan-controllers/98848-lap-auth-uwn-config.html

Option2 with AP Authorization :

1. Buy 1 X 3504 for new APs (But there will be no HA)

2. Keep old WLC for old APs

Regards
