Hi i have a cisco air lap 1522 but i have problem with it! I cant use config command in cli ? And i cant assign ip address to ap please help me! Tnx

You need a WLC for that AP to work.

Sahar:
If you have WLC then if the AP in same subnet as management WLC IP address it will automatically discover the WLC.

You need a DHCP ip address to be active so that the AP gets an IP address.

If you don't have a DHCP server and you need to assign a static ip then use these commands:

AP#capwap ap ip address  

AP#capwap ap ip default-gateway 

AP#capwap ap controller ip address

note: use the word "lwapp" instead of "capwap" if "capwap" did not work.

btw, you need to add a mac filter for the AP on the WLC to work.

You can't use that ap without a wlc. So you either need to return that or purchase at wlc.

Sahar: Who sold you this outdoor access point? Why did you get it if you don't exactly know how it can be used? shouldn't you know how to use it and what is needed to be bought with it before you get it? Without a controller this box you have is unusable.

Cisco wireless controller is a hardware that runs a software image. There are many falvors and the main difference is the number of access points that can be supported.

If you want to save some money, you can purchase a WLC2106 which is EOL. I you want something new and still supported, you can get a WLC2504.

The WLC is enough. WCS is used for monitoring and for management. WCS is pretty useful if you have more than one WLC so you can manage and monitor all of them from one location. But if you have only one WLC then that is it. No need for WCS.

AP 1522 is supported with all WLCs.

The AP should be able to reach the WLC. It is not necessary to connect it directly but they should be reachable to each other.
