We're running a 2504 WLC so I don't think LAG is available. I've currently only got one port plugged in and that is assigned to my management interface. I know the traffic will be on separate VLANs but I wasn't sure if I should use the same port for both my management interface and my dynamic interfaces (thus the reason I thought about plugging in a second port).

I will take a look at the doc you referenced.

Thanks.

I am a newbie to setting up wireless and the WLC. I'm trying to set up a guest WLAN. I know that I'll need to VLAN to segment off the traffic from our internal traffic. I don't really want our guest WLAN to access our internal DHCP servers. I am reading that the WLC can act as a DHCP server and think this may be how I want to go.

I'm to the point where I want to add the dynamic interface for my WLAN and I would like some advice on a couple of items.

1. I'm assuming that I would be better of if I plug in another port from my WLC and use that port for my WLAN dynamic interfaces?

2. I'm fuzzy on the "DHCP server" setting on my dynamic interface. If I use the WLC as my DHCP server and I have another port (say port 2) plugged in for use for WLANs is the IP address of port 2 the IP I plug into the "Primary DHCP server" field on my dynamic interface?

3. Are there any issues with using the WLC as a DHCP server in a guest network scenario?

Thanks.

1. I'm assuming that I would be better off if I plug in another port from my WLC and use that port for my WLAN dynamic interfaces?

You can if your WLC is not setup for LAG, but since you say you will use port 2, I’m assuming that port 1 is for your internal.

The DHCP would be your management ip address of your WLC

3. Are there any issues with using the WLC as a DHCP server in a guest network scenario?

No, but just remember, it’s not a full blown DHCP server but it will work.

You can just use one port if you want to. The one good reason to use port 2 is if you want to plug into the DMZ for example and push guest traffic out port 2 and not port 1.
