Thanks for your reply Scott. LSS is not enabled according to the GUI. All the mDNS values have been untouched and this is a new 8500 WLC.

Yes the issue is that ATV are associated to the controller but Airplay is not seen on some of the associated ATV's. This is random and we cannot seem to figure out what is going on as it sometime advertises and sometimes does not. The site has about 16 ATV's which are mostly wirelessly connected and according to the site tech this issue did not happen before on the WiSM blades.

Any other suggestions?

APPLE TV GEN3 NEW Software 7.0 drops AIRPLAY

We started having a lots of problems with APPLE TV after upgrading to the newest software to 7.0. The AirPlay drops frequently on all updated APPLE TV's. The ones they were not updated are ok.

We use Cisco 3750, and WLC5508 controller. With old software we did not have any problems.

APPLE TVs are wired to 3750, WIFI is distributed by WLC5508. Reverting software is not possible. Is there anything I can do from networking side?

Thank You,

thank you for Your help, I did that and still no luck. with new IOS 7.1 same story. I called Apple and looks like 45 out of 50 Apple TVs are qualifying for replacement since WIFI interference issue.

They are wired and using WIFI is the last thing I would like to do. Anyway, I will replace a couple of them and see if "replacement" fix anything. It would be nice if I have replaced APP TVs with ios 6.2 which did not caused any problems. Thank you.

P.S do you think upgrading WLC 5508 to 7.5 is good idea ? I need APP TV to function well.

v7.5 is no good and already

v7.5 is no good and already deferred. I would use v7.4.121.0 or v7.6.130.0 and make sure you also upgrade the FUS to 1.9.0.0. I have clients in both code with really no issue. There are some drops but nothing that we can do. I wouldn't run v8.0.x as of yet, because I have issues with Apple TV's dropping a lot.

Scott

Well as long as you created a dynamic interface for the wired subnet the Apple TV's are on, you should be okay. Now what you can also do for testing is to create a test SSID and map that to the same Vlan the Apple TVs are on and see if that works. This can tell you if the bonjour gateway is the issue of not.

Scott

We also are having an issue whereby the airplay seems to be not being advertised although according to the controller, all apple tv's are connected to the wireless network.

When we test the apple tv to see if its connected to the wireless network it is fine and the configuration is normal. It just randomly seems to not be seen from the Airplay list. This cannot be seen on a wired laptop connected to the same VLAN as the ATV.

Our ATV are configured for automatic update and currently on 7.0.1 (6912)

Recently we have migrated this site from the old WiSM WLC on 7.0 to 8500 WLC on 7.6.130.

Has anyone else had this issue? or is there something we can do to troubleshoot?

As long as you have everything setup properly on the WLC (AirPlay & AirTunes) you should have no issues. You would be able to see the Apple TVs on the WLC. If the issue is with Apple TVs not showing up on certain AirPlay devices, that could be due to enabling LSS. LSS limits the services to only be shown from the same ap or neighbor ap. If you disable LSS, your device should be able to see all devices.

Scott

Thanks for your reply Scott. LSS is not enabled according to the GUI. All the mDNS values have been untouched and this is a new 8500 WLC.

Yes the issue is that ATV are associated to the controller but Airplay is not seen on some of the associated ATV's. This is random and we cannot seem to figure out what is going on as it sometime advertises and sometimes does not. The site has about 16 ATV's which are mostly wirelessly connected and according to the site tech this issue did not happen before on the WiSM blades.

Any other suggestions?

We had some minor issues before but not drops with airplay. it started happening after upgrade IOS to 7.0 and to 7.1

The airplay is visible (if apple tv is wired) for 10 - 15 min and after that disappear so we have to reboot that TV in order to be visible again and this is the problem I am dealing with.

if I connect Apple TV to the wifi, we have another problem but airplay stays all the time on. I would prefer to use "wire" instead of wifi. Apple confirms issue with wifi on gen3 apple tv with wifi interference problem ,and they are on the replacement plan. But again - I am concern about wire connection.

I will fallow up on your advice's today and let you know. I think I will do tcpdump and use wireshark - maybe that will tell me what is going on.

It could be .... If I connect all AppleTV to the wifi there is no drops with AirPlay. All TV's are visible in other vlans and I can connect to whatever is connected to WIFI. I can also connect from the laptops are wired or use WIFI. As soon as I change connection type on the Apple TV to the "wired" most of them disappear after 15 - 20 minutes and are not any more visible.

I am taking the first group of APPTVs to the Apple store for replacement and will be testing for another couple days so let you know my findings.

Wireless is really the way to go, especially if you have a lot of Apple TV's, like a school that has one in every room. The use of LSS is only available when the bonjour service is on the wireless and no wired. How you can also tell if its an Apple TV, is to download AirServer or AirParriot and see if those disappears also when on the wired side. These software works the same as an Apple TV and require the same bonjour service.

Scott

Since the upgrade of these ATV's to 7.0.1, we are having issues with seeing the Airplay broadcasted over both the wired and wireless

At this site we have both wireless and wired connected ATV's. In order to test I connected a macbook air to the site(wired) on the same vlan as the ATV's to try eliminate issues on either the wired or wireless. According to the controller all ATV's are connected but when looking at the Airplay list on the Macbook I cannot see all of the ATV advertised. When I try connecting the Macbook to the wireless, it is the same ... not all ATV's are advertised.

It must be some bug in the new ATV IOS which is screwing up both wired and wireless airplay settings.

Update.

It appears there is an issue with IOS 7.0 and 7.0.1 whereby it doesn't matter if the ATV's are wired or wirelessly connected, the airplay does not seem to consistently advertise.
