topic WLSM & WLSE - "SECURITY KEYS SETUP" but "Link to WNM: DOWN" in Wireless

Every so often my WLSM will show that the link to the WLSE is down, although both the WLSM and the WLSE still show a status of "Security Keys Setup". I can't find any other evidence of network connectivity issues between the devices and even after I verify by pinging each device from the other the link-down status on the WLSM doesn't clear.

This doesn't appear to have any effect on clients as I have sometimes failed to notice it for several days. I've found that rebooting the WLSE will re-establish the connection, but surely there's a better way.

On the WLSE everything looks good:

Status: Active

WLSE to WDS Authentication Status: KeysSetUpWithWDS

On the WLSM the status looks good:

mhc-wlsm#show wlccp wnm status

WNM IP Address : 10.103.216.9 Status : SECURITY KEYS SETUP

But the WLCCP Network Management shows the link is down:

mhc-wlsm#show wlccp wds nm

WLCCP-NM : running, Configuration Parameter : 0x1

Tx message processing statistics :

Count of requested messages : 2061894

Count of sent messages : 2142184

Count of message retransmission : 80294

Count of messages waiting ack : 1

Count of dropped tx messages(MIC): 4

Count of dropped tx messages(UMD): 0

Rx message processing statistics :

Count of indicated messages : 3

Count of received messages : 2021884

Count of dropped rx messages : 5

Link to WNM : DOWN

Client Tracking : Inactive

The last entry in the WLSM log also shows the link being down:

Jul 4 17:53:28: %WLCCP_NM-3-WNM_LINK_DOWN: Link to WNM is down

Any ideas what might cause this?
