Hi

I ahve notice that on our coporate WLAN the Interface is Dummy why is this and what is the purpose of the Dummy Interface it has a non routable IP Address and is assigned to a vlan that isnt present anywhere else in the network, there is a interface for the clients so why wouldnt this be mapped to the WLAN.??

Thanks

I suspect you are using FlexConnect mode APs, there you have the ability to map an SSID to a VLAN locally.

By assigning dummy interface --> That way if something hiccups you can't get a real address.

INFO: Interface you map the WLAN to on the WLC. That is used for local mode APs and FlexConnect using central switching. FlexConnect APs with the WLAN configured for local switching will override the WLAN interface.

or are you using anchor foreign setup ? if yes

Info: In the scenario of an auto-anchored WLAN, where the foreign controller would forward all traffic to the anchor, it is still recommended to set the WLAN on the foreign to a "dummy" interface

If NO then you must check if that wlan is working o not ?

Hi

Yes we are auto anchor, we advertise a WLAN for a 3rd party and they advertise a WLAN for us through Mobility anchor, our side is set to dummy interface on the WLAN but dont think their side is.?

Thanks

then its right. on your side its set to dummy and other side it must be set to right interface.

Hi

Thanks so let me see if im getting this right

we advertise their WLAN on our WLC/AP's so becasue it s their WLAN is our side set to Dummy Interface on the WLAN and theirs side set to the Interface that maps to the WLAN

and then the opposite because they advertise our WLAN for us.??

Thanks

correct because all traffic from your side is terminating on their WLC/WLAN.

To know more...see this anchor foreign setup:
