Are you saying that you setup a static address on the ap from the WLC GUI (from the ap doesn’t work), and after a reload, the AP gets a dhcp and a different IP address from what you defined on the GUI? Keep in mind that any changes you make from the ap cli, will not be persistent after a reboot. Also, it’s better to use dhcp Mac reservations is you want specific AP’s to have a specific address.

Dear Scott,

I tried this steps..

connected AP with console and put this command in AP's CLI "capwap ap ip 10.0.1.161 255.255.255.128 10.0.1.129 10.0.0.11

then configured primary base ip after this ap joined WLC and then I changed AP's IP from WLC gui to 10.0.1.157 then apply changes.. after this i rebooted the AP but after reboot the AP lost the IP configuration and showed network not reachable

There seem to be 2 similar bugs open for static IP loss at the moment. Second one is hidden for some odd reason but if you search "capwap ap static ip lost" in bug search tool you see partial view of it in the results.

I expect they'll probably duplicate the second one to the first one at some point.

https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCwb24683

The workaround will be to use DHCP with static IP assignments.

Already answered by me and Scott above previously. Possibly caused by a bug. Use DHCP with IP reservations rather than trying to configure static IPs.

Also be aware of the behaviour of CAPWAP APs to ignore the static IP and fallback to using DHCP, by design, in certain situations when discovering the WLC. This is an automatic recovery mechanism for APs with possible invalid IP configuration.

Well as a general rule upgrading to latest code should be your starting point to eliminate known bugs - after you've checked the release notes and tested first of course.

Reserved DHCP works fine for those who like fixed IP addresses - if that didn't work that would be a problem with your DHCP server (probably config) not the AP.

Looking back at the bugs I referenced before:

https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCwb24683 has now been terminated and CSCvz98899 has been dup'd to https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCvz73546 which is fixed in the latest releases of IOS-XE.

Hello.
I am having the same problem mentioned, the access point was registered to the controller, it basically worked for about three hours, then the ap lost ehternet connectivity and the wired0 interface appears down and does not show the ip, even when it has been set via static CLI, neither it works by DHCP, the AP does not receive ip, even when the others do.
AP model 9120AIX, firmware 17.8.1, now I don't know how to do a downgrade in case it's the code because the ap can't download the software via TFTP because it doesn't raise the ethernet interface.
