I often see the terms oFEC and OFEC, and as far as I can tell it refers to Open FEC, typically in the context of convolution and/or turbo codes. What exactly is OFEC and oFEC? Is it a standard? Note that I have been to OpenFEC.org, and I don't think it's related.

Hi - Yes, specifically mentioned in the Cisco 400G Digital Coherent Optics QSFP-DD Optical Modules Data Sheet as a form of forward error correction. From what I can tell it's a convolutional code or turbo code, but I am more interested in why they call it OFEC. Should I be looking for an Open FEC organization, or is this just a term for "any old non-proprietary FEC"?

Cisco Transceiver Modules - Cisco 400G Digital Coherent Optics QSFP-DD Optical Modules Data Sheet - Cisco

Thank you - This is very close to answering my question.

ITU-T G.709.3/Y.1331.3, Appendix V.1 Open FEC Codes: Specifications and basic properties

This seems to be an explanation, if not the actual spec itself, which is peculiar existing as an appendix.
