Also remember that aWIPS functionality is programmed in WLC software so it needs Advantage license to work. DNA Center is needed when you want to configure WIPS profiles and capture pcap files when an attack match specific signature. But if you don't need that but you need WIPS (in less configurable option) it is enough to have C9800 and APs with Advantage licenses.

We have WLC5520 with original perpetual license, is that possible to add new license type (DNA subscription 3yr, 5yr )

i am wondering that WLC5520 Can mix the license between original perpetual and DNA license?

and Another question, What license type do i need between DNA Essentials and Advantage for general wireless features?

I think mixing is not possible, but I'm not 100% sure.
If you don't use DNA Center, then the DNA Essentials license should be enough and allow you to use all features on the WLC.

Hi,

As per my knowledge... License files do not exist on 5520 WLC. You simply have to add the amount of licenses that you have bought.

More info on license , you should need to contact to your supplier or cisco licesning team.

Regards

Dont forget to arte helpful posts

Each DNA Subscription (E and A) contains a perpetual "Controller"-Licence which is added to your smart account. When you use RTU licensing instead, just increment the license counter on the controller (and ignore the reboot message). In this case, you have to take care that the license counter matches the amount of LIC-5520-1A and WLC-AP-T licenses you own.
Since the WLC-AP-T licenses belong to the AP, not the WLC, you are allowed in case of N+1 redundancy to increase the licenses on both WLCs, because the AP is only connected to one WLCs at a time.
