C9120AXI-EWC initial configuration

Hi i am trying to start to configure a C9120AXI-EWC Controller out of the box.

The WAP has powered up & i have used the initial setup dialog to configure an IP address/default route & login creds.

However, according to this guide Cisco Embedded Wireless Controller on Catalyst Access Points (EWC) White Paper - Cisco

The WLC should be broadcasting an SSID to provision using an over-the-air setup wizard, but i do not see this SSID.

Am i missing something in the process to be able to start the WLC configuration?

check is the SSID enabled - i revalidate the steps mentioned you provided the link document again.

The WAP is running version 16.12.04a & i have followed the steps in both the document & that video, but i still do not see the SSID being advertised.

I have also followed the steps in the guide included in the bootflash "ewc_day0_device_provisioning_guide" with the same result.

I have 2 x C9120AXI-EWC -E WAPs & get the same results on both.

Also when i manually configure an IP address on interface GigabitEthernet0, i cannot ping that interface from the L3 connected switch.

The config applied on the WLC using the setup script is...

Basic management setup is now complete.
At this point, it is possible to save the above and continue wireless setup using the webUI

The following configuration command script was created:

It would appear that there are some steps missing from the guides/instructions.

Has anyone configured the embedded WLC out of the box that could advise please?

Don't waste any more time on that old version of software!

Upgrade to 17.6.4 or 17.9.1 (mine is running on 17.9.1) and then start again. Also I have never managed to use the startup SSID properly (not that I made much effort). Just configure from console and then connect over LAN to do your configuration.
