Cisco 5520 - Version 8.10.171.0 - No more AP manager addresses remain

Hi all,

our customer has a WLC 5520 with Version 8.10.171.0

All APs are working, except (probably) 5 of the model 2802

They ONLY join if you finally ping them once. The whole thing is very strange.

In the log you only see:

[*12/22/2022 14:51:53.7951] No more AP manager addresses remain..
[*12/22/2022 14:51:53.7951] No valid AP manager found for controller 'BLABLABLA' (ip: 192.168.208.110)
[*12/22/2022 14:51:53.7951] Failed to join controller BLABLABLA.
[*12/22/2022 14:51:53.7951] Failed to join controller.

And will be shown in in a continuous loop. Join request, response from controller and then the above output, again and again.

Until you ping the IP of the AP at some point and boom, it joined immediately.

I can't find anything helpful online about the "No more AP manager addresses remain" message, except that there used to be a recommendation to use 49 APs per manager.

Interestingly, the customer has 49 APs here.

But I also switched off 2 APs for a test, so that we were on 47 and still AP No. 48 didn't join (unless you pinged)

Ideas????

what do you mean exactly?
debug capwap events enable and so on?

Nothing helpful. I even do not see the IP of the AP that he´s got from the DHCP in those logs.

- You see nothing at all in the controller logs when this ap tries to join , I do refer indeed for the time being to the 'normal logs' (show logging) , so is the IP address being allocated to the AP correct and within the range of addresses intended for your access points ?
