Ok I've posted about this a number of times already but here we go again - this CAN be done remotely:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/embedded-wireless-controller-catalyst-access-points/white-paper-c11-743398.html#Conversion

Converting EWCs to CAPWAP using option 43

DHCP option 43 is a vendor-specific option and is used for providing WLC IP addresses to the access point. Using option 43 with a specific subtype option, you can have the EWC convert to CAPWAP and join a WLC appliance or virtual controller. After the AP receives DHCP option 43 and subtype 0xF2 at bootup, the AP type will be converted to CAPWAP, and the AP will follow the regular joining process.

The DHCP configuration on the switch is shown below.

Switch(dhcp-config)#option 43 hex F2056464645801

Hi

By mistake we have ordered some AIR-AP1562I-E-K9 APs with Mobility Express setup.
Now these are mounted in hard to reach places, and we need them in CAPWAP mode.

When logging on to them through SSH, and trying the "apciscoshell", the output is "apciscoshell CLI is not supported from Telnet or SSH Session. It is only supported from Console."

So, is there any other way to put these APs in CAPWAP mode, or do we have to pull them all down and use console cable?

Regards

Hi,

Can you access these APs using CLI ? if yes then :

To reset the AP into CAPWAP mode you’ll need to enter enable mode on the CLI and enter the “ap-type capwap” command.

XXXX#ap-type capwap

Regards

Thank you Sandeep

Unfortunatly Cisco seems to have restricted access to AP CLI when in Mobility Express mode, running the command #apciscoshell outputs: "apciscoshell CLI is not supported from Telnet or SSH Session. It is only supported from Console."

Any ideas?

Regards
