- The aironet 1601E may download the needed software by itself when connecting to the mobility express controller, however you may need a tftp server to store ap images as explained in : https://www.wiresandwi.fi/blog/cisco-mobility-express-image-management-using-tftp-server

1602 is end of support so last supported version is 8.5: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/aironet-1600-series/eos-eol-notice-c51-737506.html

Latest 8.5 published code for your AP is 8.5.182.0 https://software.cisco.com/download/home/286285791/type/286289839/release/8.5.182.0 but the 1602 APs are likely to be affected by the field notice below and Cisco do not seem to have released 8.5.182.7 for mobility express. So you'd either have to keep the date set earlier than 4 Dec 2022 (to allow the APs to download and install the software) or contact Cisco TAC for a build of 8.5.182.7 for 1850 ME. Note that 8.5 itself is end of life which is why Cisco have not published a general release with the fix.

As Marce said you will still need to provide a TFTP server for the APs to download the software from and that TFTP server must be correctly configured on your ME WLC (which tells the APs where to get the image from).

All the links you need - compatibility matrix, field notices, TAC recommended releases are in my signature below:

Remember that this TFTP-server always has to be available with the correct access points images on it if you want to be able to continuously add access points to your deployment. The Mobility Express Controller will not locally store any of the images that have been grabbed using the TFTP-server in the past.

This is a very problem. I don't have a WLC, but i have Mobility Express, my network is very small.
Any solutions ?

I can create a tftf server for update this 8 Ap and after close the tft server ? Will my Ap work ?
