I am thinking to setup a wireless network (Cisco Airespace controller 4100) using EAP-PEAP for authentication. We have a Microsoft 2003 server running IAS. My understanding is that a server side certificate is needed at the MS IAS server. I don't know enough about PKI. My question is if I have to use certificate issued by public PKI companies? or, I can enable the Microsoft Certificate services and issue a self-signed certificate for the IAS?

does my question make sense?

Thanks.

A self-signed certificate from your 2003 Server Certificate Authority will work just fine.

Please note that when you bring up your CA and issue certificates, the service configuration of the server (workgroup, domain, IP address ...) cannot change, or you invalidate your certs.

Good Luck

Scott
