Using Both Omni and Sector antenna

Hi,

We have a wireless mesh network in our mine site and we're using Aironet 1562 access points. All of our equipments (clients) are 2.4 ghz, so we're not utilizing 5 ghz channel for any clients. In two of our access points, which is attached on a trailer so we can reallocate them to suit mines operational needs, i connected PCTEL MSPDBDI244914NF sector antennas 2.4 ghz connectors to bottom ports of AP, and 2 of AIR-ANT2568VG-N on top 2 ports of AP and i configured AP in single channel mode.

The main reason why I did this is that the sector antenna is directly facing the area where I want to broadcast the signal where the devices I want to connect to the internet (mostly trucks) are located, but there is no access point to which it can connect in the direction the antenna is facing. I thought it would help it connect to other access points by using the omni antennas on the 5ghz channel (basically i want to use 5 ghz channel for backhaul, since there's no physical obstruction between APs, only slight elevation difference) and with this configuration the connection is OK for now.

My question is, is this configuration is solid and does it makes sense? I am on the trial and error path since i'm only a tech savvy mining engineer and this is not my area of expertise, and one IT guy i spoke says that this antenna configuration is useless.
