Ideally you should put the APs on separate VLANs with option 43 on 1 VLAN pointed to the 5520 and pointed to 3504 on the other. That way the APs will not even know about the other WLC.

Unless you've got all the APs on the same subnet as the WLC in which case they can discover both WLCs by local broadcast which is not a good situation. You can then restrict them as Marce suggested but ideally they should be on separate subnets.

AP deployment

Hi ,

I have a site having mixed of 3802, 2802, 1552H model of APs joining the WLC model 5520 in HA pair. I need to now newly add 9130AXI AP model. Due to IOS compatibility issue, I am making the 1552H model of APs to join a spare 3504 WLC in HA pair. And the remaining 3802, 2802 and 9130 APs will be on 5520 WLC.

I configure the high availability for AP to be on the specific primary controller. However, Upon any issue or power failure of any WLC model pair, will the APs fluctuate between the WLCs? If 5520 WLCs are failed, will the Aps registered to it try to join the 3504 by downloading a lower IOS code? How to mitigate this issue as the WLCs will be on the same network?
