I recently got a 9130AXI and a 9800 WLC. I did the setup and everything is working except the Wi-Fi 6. According to the data sheet the 9130AXI support Wi-Fi6 but in the 9800 WLC under

Configuration - Wireless - Access Point

Total 6 GHz radios : 0
Total 5 GHz radios : 2
Total 2.4 GHz radios : 1

Why I am not able to see any Wi-Fi 6 radio interface?

I setup the WLAN with 6Ghz and 5Ghz status enable and WPA3 as a security. When I tested the connection speed it is 230 Mbs next to the AP.

WiFi 6 is 802.11ax.

6 Ghz is neither WiFi 6 nor 802.11ax.

- Have a checkup of the 9800 WLC configuration with the CLI command show tech wireless ; and feed the output into :
Wireless Config Analyzer
- What software version is the 9800 WLC running ?
- Note that you also need PMF enabled on the WLAN.

Thank you so much for your reply. I was confused, I though I can set tup Wi-Fi 6 for these devices since cisco say 9130AXI support Wi-Fi 6. Then I can also use that speed 230 Mbs?

THank you for your reply. I tried that command but gave a very long output and I cannot scroll to the beginning. There is another way to export all that output to test the configuration?

I also update the 9800 software to 17.9.3 same result and then I update to the 17.13.1 version.

I will double check the PMF settings.

- You need to save the output of the show tech wireless command to a file and use that file as input for https://cway.cisco.com/wireless-config-analyzer/

It is strongly advised to continue on that since you will get many useful hints and corrections ,

If you console into the ap and reboot it, do you see anything about hardware failure or if you see entries for the 2.4ghz and 5ghz radio but not the 6ghz?

the 9130 ap is a wifi6 ap NOT and wifi6e.. the 'e' means the 6ghz band. as stated wifi6 means 802.11ax.

However, wifi7 is 802.11be and requires 6ghz support. Also 6ghz support requires windows11!.

Thanks David. I was confuse with this new terminology. I thought that Wi-Fi 6 will gave me more wireless connection speed at least 500 or 700 Mbs to the clients. When I did the first test just one iPhone 13 connected to the 9130 AP the speed test result with google was 230 Mbs.

230mbps sounds about right. Thruput depends on the number of streams and the functional bandwidth.

that iPhone 13 is maybe 2 streams and your network is most likely 40meg rather than 80 or 160.

Correct, it is 40 MHz channel wide, if I use 80 or 160 will the speed increase?

Yes and no.

1. That will depend on the wireless client. If the wireless client has the hardware capable of 80- or 160 Mhz channel width or not. Unanimous answer is no.

2. 80- &/or 160 Mhz will depend on how "clean" the channels around the APs are. If there are a lot of rogues APs, use 20- or 40 Mhz width instead.

Just to summarise for anyone else with a similar question:
Wifi 6 = 802.11ax but 6 GHz band support depends on the hardware - in other words the router or access point must have a 6GHz radio.
WiFi 6E = 802.11ax with 6 GHz support and therefore the hardware must have a 6GHz radio.

9130AXI is WiFi 6 and does not support the 6GHz band
9136I is WiFi 6E and does support the 6GHz band
As the 9136 datasheet says: Wi-Fi 6E is Wi-Fi 6 “extended” into the 6-GHz frequency band.
