topic WLSE Rogue detection question in Wireless

Hi,

 I'm running WLSE 2.9.1a and, occasionally, when it detects a rogue it can't tell me where it is. The explanation is;

'Location could not be determined. Reporting APs have different physical locations'

Presumably, this message means that the reporting APs are in different buildings and are picking up this rogue therefore it's signal is flying through external walls....so it could be anywhere outside of these buildings..........correct??...or other suggestions please...thx...J

WLSE can only "estimate" the location of a Rogue AP, cannot point to the exact location. The reason being that WLSE do not know the transmit power of the rogue AP which cannot be detected any way. Also, in rogue location estimation, it also depends on how many APs are present on a floor, how far they are apart of each other. Min of three or more APs should be present on a floor to have a better rogue location estimation. The more the better. See 'How does WLSE detect rogue APs?': http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/rtrmgmt/cwparent/cw_1105/wlse/2_9/ts_gd/faqs.htm#wp1055204

to understand this better
