We have 30 AP connected to a 2504 controller, 4 ap are failed . Question is : can i just replace them with 4 new onse ( same type ) and will the automaticly adopt ?

Yes, if you replace APs with same model, it should work if it was working before, your firmware should already be compatible, once AP joins it will download the correct firmware and config from WLC. As recommended you just need to make sure APs join the WLC through whatever is the current join mechanism and APs are in CAPWAP mode.

Question is : can i just replace them with 4 new onse ( same type ) and will the automaticly adopt ?

For me the Cisco is new , our supplier are not wanting to replace this units, instead the offer a total replacement ( 110k euro ) this is a ridiculous amount, so we want to replace this 4 unis by our self.

wich step we have to proceed ?

thanks in advance,

Patrick

Netherlands

Maybe the AP model is EoL and that's why they are not offering you a replacement part. Which model are they?

That is purely business decision what product to buy or not.

As we seen even though product eol and it able to serve the purpose some organization ok due to financial concerns

some of the equipment works as long as it can, only thing you see there is no support when you have issue (if you are not looking any major issue to fix it) - for hardware you can always keep spare to replace.

> can i just replace them with 4 new onse ( same type ) and will the automaticly adopt ?

It depends ... As Marce said it depends on the discovery mechanism you are using.
Then it also depends on whether your WLC is set up using AP groups and/or flex groups because the APs will need to be added to those manually.
It also might need the MAC address of the APs to be added to the WLC if MAC authorisation is enabled.

Then assuming you have all that covered there is a good chance the WLC software is out of date so the APs will not be able to join - go through all the field notices below. In that case you'll need to follow the FN instructions to get the APs working and also upgrade the WLC to 8.5.182.11 (link below).

You're going to need to get yourself up to date on a whole lot of Cisco AireOS WLC operations and admin ...
And you definitely want to make sure you have a console cable to use on the APs.
Best to get a cable with genuine FTDI chipset - check reviews to make sure the one you choose has been tested with Cisco APs because they are very fussy and only work with some cables.
