Prime NCS 1.3 - Restore from 1.1.0.58

We are facing some issues in restoring NCS backup. We did a fresh installation to NCS 1.3 and tried to restore the backup from previous version 1.1.0.58, but getting below error immediatly after stage 2 ..

Any idea about this error and please let me know this 1.1.0.58 backup can be restore to 1.3 version ?

It sounds to me like you didn't have the upgrade patch installed or if you did, it doesn't sound like you did a restore of the DB once you installed the upgrade patch.

If this is the case, here's what you'll need to do.

You will need to restore the 1.1.0.58 backup back into a 1.1.0.58 server then get it up and running.

Then,

if you haven't installed the upgrade patch then do so. Once you have the upgrade patch installed you have to take a backup once the patch is installed then restore the backup right back on top of the patched application.

if you have installed the upgrade patch then you need to take a backup once the patch is installed then restore the backup right back on top of the patched application.

Maybe this will help clear things up:::

When the upgrade patch gets installed on NCS 1.1.0.58 or NCS 1.1.1.24 nothing happens to the database.

The only thing that changes when the upgrade patch gets installed is the appliction executables change on the application.

When the oracle database is passed back through these new executables, the DB gets formatted according to those new executables. This is why a backup and a restore is required after the ugprade patch get installed.

One more thing:::Be sure the run the restore command from a console else the SSH session may timeout-

I hope i understand it right:

1. patch the ncs 1.1.0.58 with patch "ncs_patch-1.1.0.58-upgrade-12.gz"

2. get the backup file .*gpg

3. restore with this backupfile the same ncs?

4. get the backup file .*gpg the second time?

5. restore with the new backupfile the Prime 1.3 Server?

Correct.

Be sure to use application NCS with the backup and restore commands. Also, be sure to run the restore command(s) from the console so the SSH session doesn't timeout.

1. patch the ncs 1.1.0.58 with patch "ncs_patch-1.1.0.58-upgrade-12.gz"

2. take a backup from the GUI or CLI (if cli, be sure to use application NCS)

ncs/admin# backup mybackup repository myrepository application NCS

3. restore this backupfile to the same ncs?

ncs/admin# restore mybackup repository myrepository application NCS

4. Take a new backup

5. Restore that .gpg file to the new 1.3 server

ncs/admin# restore mybackup repository myrepository application NCS

Thanks for the reply Rob but it was bit late 🙂 . we uploaded evenrything manually.

Need to clarify few points

Is it possible to get the raw files of configuration archive and take the backup in an external Server rather than taking complete Prime Infra backup. PI version is 1.3.

Also we noticed many of network switches are showing unknown and confoguration archive not happening always.

I don't think the configuration archive are stored in the Prime Infrastructure backup-

As for the switches showing unknown:: Vefiry SNMP and SSH credentials- You might even have to delete the switch(es) and add it back
