Upgrading ME controller with associated AP which has different model

Hi all, apperiacte your help. I have 1 ME wlc model 3800 and 2 AP model 2800 associated with wlc. I have the firmware for both model.

I've tried upgrading through http (gui), uploading the wlc firmware (3800) file first. Wlc automatically upload the same file to AP. Now the process had failed due to AP file version mismatch.

Same with TFTP, i can only point to the folder which has the 3800 firmware. Process failed due to AP firmware version mismatch.

Can i upgrade the WLC only and then upgrade the AP after? How to do this

Thanks im advance.

- You should be able to upgrade the WLC only (first) ; APs will fetch the new image from the upgraded ME controller
when rebooting ; if AP-client images are provided through an TFTP server , then you need to upload the corresponding AP image bundle to the tftp server too. Checkout : https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/technotes/8-3/b_Cisco_Mobility_Express_Deployment_Guide/m_managing_the_mobility_express_network.html

And scrutinize the parts related to upgrading

- The ME controller is upgraded standalone , the tftp server is only used to distribute images to client APs
