C9120AXI-S Cannot Join EWC

Hi everyone.

I currently have a WLC C9800L running IOS 17.8.1.

I just bought 3 x C9120AXI-S (VID 7) and want them to join this controller.

I know that with VID 7, it will need to upgrade to AP Version 17.9.2 or later but when I upgrade these APs
to that version, the APs still cannot Join WLC 17.8.1

So could you please have another idea for me ?

- That makes no sense , the AP will sync the software version with the controller again ; so you need
to upgrade the controller to 17.9.2 or later ; as explained in :

In other development, please keep the number of wireless client connected to a single 910x, 911x or 912x to <15. If the wireless client >25, the 910x, 911x or 912x will quickly run out of memory and the affected AP will crash.

Please refer to CSCvy08682.

And one final thing: Cisco will not be fixing this bug.

Since the WLC 9800L (17.8.1) is currently managing 11 AIR-2801I-SK9 APs and is running at version 17.8.0.144, this means I cannot keep the WLC version at 17.8.1 if I want 3 C9120AXI-S to join this controller??

Not sure what exact AP model you are referring to with AIR-2801I-SK9 , but the 2800 series are supported beyond 17.8.x the older IOS COS AP's such as 2700, 3700 model are supported up and to 17.12.x
But the indeed , for those C9120AXI-S with that hardware revision level the upgrade is always mandatory
