We have catalyst 9800 WLC and we have 9120 series ap`s which has already aironet firmware, when connected with new WLC after dicovering the controller when it sent the join request we are receiving CAPWAP State: DTLS Teardown message, following is the console output.

On controller we are receiving the syslog message of "AP is Unsupported"

- Check compatibility info's between controller and ap , by google on 'cisco wireless compatibility matrix' ; also look at the required software versions if applicable.

For the 9800’s, there are also an APDP file to upload to the unit to support specific access points. If you are running the latest software, the 9120’s are supported but you need the AP device pack to support the 9130’s.

The Controller and AP are compatible that i checked already, as of now ap has an aironet firmware 8.9.111. Should AP get the new firmware and configuration file from new controller ?

We have 6.10 firmware running on controller that`s the reason AP is not joining, for 8.9.111 firmware on AP we should have 6.12 firmware on WLC so we need to upgrade the controller.

Have you looked at the matrix? The 9120i require the following on a 9800 controller:

Ensure you have the Trustpoint certificate generated with the show command below.

If you dont have one configured use this command to generate.

#wireless config vwlc-ssc key-size 2048 signature-algo sha256 password 0 <pwd>

This cert is used the establish the DTLS for capwap data.
