Hello everyone,

We are experiencing an issue with our Cisco AP C9130AXI-S running on WLC 9800-40 Version 17.12.3. The problem is that the AP suddenly loses its assigned IP Address. When this happens, the AP becomes unreachable. We checked the switch connected to the AP, and while CDP neighbors show up correctly, the AP's IP Address is missing. We have to shut no shut the interface to the AP to restore connectivity.

Has anyone seen this issue where the AP suddenly loses its IP Address? What could possibly be the cause of this issue?

Dear Hanateaa,
If possible, can you please share the quantity of access points you are using and topology. Have you dig deep on switch logs and troubleshoot the connectivity of access point. In reply to @Leo Laohoo you mentioned that static IP you configured is lost. This happen by many reasons like if gateway is not reachable for any reason, AP will move to send DHCP request on the network. Maybe this is because your network having some kind of connectivity drops. In my suggestion you need to first check your network that all your APs are reachable or not and if you found any AP goes down then see what happen to their connectivity. If you are using POE switch then see will AP uptime is more then it goes down or offline. Also check if there is any unknown IP address assigned on access point automatically.
I hope this can help you, Keep posted your finding.

With Regards
Gaurav Kansal

Please mark this helpful and if it resolves your issue please mark this as solution.

You must configure a separate DHCP pool for each access point type.
You follow the step on below guide - Look for

Configuring DHCP Option 43
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/access_point/9130ax/quick/guide/ap9130ax-getstart.html

When you use a static address on an access point, that static assignment gets overridden with a dhcp if the ap looses connection with the controller. So when connectivity is lost, the ap will reboot to try to discover the controller and uses dhcp because it assumes it might be placed on a wrong vlan. What you are seeing is in fact the way it should work. Like what the others mentioned, use dhcp and then use mac reservations if you want ap's to have specific ip address.
