I'm interested to know what wouldn't be compatible. ISE is radius standards based. I'm assuming its the advanced features like SGT's and such that need this requirement.

We are running ISE 3.1 and I have plans to upgrade the C9800 to 17.9.x (which is the recommended one). But I see in the release notes that ISE 3.1 is not listed in the compatibility matrix.

Is it true that ISE 3.1 is not supported?!

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/9800/17-9/release-notes/rn-17-9-9800.html#id_104423

As per the Wireless Solution Software Compatibility Matrix Table 1. it is compatible.

I'm guessing the doc is just not updated when it lists back to 2.4. I doubt you would have issues, but you should have some test wireless to verify with.

If it only listed 3.2 I would be more wary, but I haven't seen issues with newer ISE code dropping compatibility.
