Any additional information you can provide is always great.

I will also most likely start another post in soon to get some advice/input on upgrade hardware options for AP's, WLC and using two WLC (5508, 9800) in conjunction whilst upgrading.

Trying to figure out the best way to set up a Cisco 3802E AP for our WLC environment. I was able to connect it to our WLC, but then noticed no Bridge/mesh option in WLC settings. Would be using this AP indoors, with external antenna above structure and connecting it to RAP or MAP and connected to switch with other network equipment. Doesn't sound like Mobility express would be what I am looking for, unless maybe trying to get other AP's connecting to it. Appreciate any advice on this topic.

WLC - 5508

Code-8.5.182.12

Outdoor AP's - 1552E, 1572E - Lightweight image acting as RAP and MAP

Indoor AP - 1602E in Autonomous mode working as WGB connecting to MAP/RAP as clients.

your 3802 is running ME image now ?
-> i suggest to keep management central using the WLC5508 and convert the 3802 to lightweight image
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/wireless/aironet-3800-series-access-points/series.html#~tab-downloads

according to https://community.cisco.com/t5/wireless/wlc-5508-support-aironet-2802i-and-3802i/td-p/3070676
the WLC should support the 3802 when the wlc is running
-minimum of 8.2.111.0,
- due to stability reason recommend version 8.2.151.0.
so with 8.5.182.12 you are compliant with above

It gives me either mobility express or capwap made. Is WGB mode not supported on this 3802e AP?
When I connect it to our WLC I really only have local or flex connect mode. I am looking for the 3802e to connect wirelessly through backhaul to our MAP -1552e model. It would also have a switch connected that has network devices plugged in. I guess, just trying to figure out the best set up method to fit with our current hardware.

with the mobility express image the device is both an AP and a (virtual) WLC in the same box.
(both devices have their own IP address)
the AP can register itself to the WLC and can be configured from there using "config ap name... "or something
in capwap mode the local WLC is disabled and the AP can register itself to an external WLC
(but better use the lightweight image only)

-> when registered to your external WLC you can cofigure this AP as WGB, same way in the other post.
changing the mode/role from the WLC and apply the mesh template you already defined

1. @Cap-24 5508 and 8.5 AireOS are End of Support and there were many features still missing on the COS APs (the "new" OS which 3802 uses) in 8.5 code version so that could be a factor.
2. I also remember (though can't find any documentation for it now) that early hardware revisions of 3802 did not support bridge mode (mesh) so that could also be a factor.

I've just had a look and I am now pretty sure it is not supported in 8.5. The AP Mode dropdown does not offer Bridge or Flex+Bridge on 8.5.182.12 but does on 8.10.196.0. Needless to say 5508 cannot run 8.10 and some of your other end of support APs are not supported on later releases either. Really time to think about refreshing all that hardware otherwise you'll just hit more obstacles like this unless you can find old obsolete second hand APs to use.

To run the 3802 as WGB you will need to install later CAPWAP software on the AP https://software.cisco.com/download/home/286304522/type/286288051/release/15.3.3-JK11 (8.10.196.0).
Do not join it to the 5508 after installing that code otherwise it will just switch back to 8.5.182.12.

See Rasika's guide at https://mrncciew.com/2020/07/07/cisco-2800-3800-ap-as-wgb/ on how to configure WGB on 3802. Note the first part of that is a refresher on IOS WGB configuration - it's the second part you want.
Some more for C91xx APs at https://mrncciew.com/2022/07/11/cisco-9100-ap-as-wgb/

Thanks Rich for this good information. Do you know if the firmware has to be exactly The below firmware or can it be other JK.. options? Not going to be easy for me to come up with the firmware without a Cisco Service Account.

Any JK will do but JK11 is the last AireOS one so should have the least bugs <smile>
You could also try the more recent code from 9800 WLCs which goes right up to 17.18.2
