Folks,

Currently I have (1) CW9164i-MR at a site and would like to add more wireless coverage. Could I add an MR36 and and have clients roam between them or what would be the best option. I know adding another 9164 would be best, but trying to be cost conscious The area with a wifi gap is small, so I would like a small and cheap option.

I'm going to add to @Ryan_Miles answer - roaming works fine for a good bug free client.

Lets say you have a really new device with WiFi-6E support. Will its software handle roaming to an MR36 using WiFi-6, or will it hold onto the WiFi-6E connection because it can't see anything else using the same band, until it can no longer hold on, and then roam?

You lower your risk of exposing client roaming issues (with the client) by sticking to the same model APs

.

Clients are you biggest risk. The different model APs will happily handle the roaming request though.

Agreed. Right now its all Wifi 6 or lower. 6E is down the road and for the most part, it should be be an issue today.

The MR36 would also be on a different floor, but basically 15' below the 9164. That's another issue I am wondering. I may do another SSID to pin the MR36 devices.
