Is anyone encountering problems with their Cisco Meraki AP (MR56) reducing its speed from 1000 to 100? If that is the case, is there a remedy to revert the speed to 1000? I utilize the command to change it automatically, but it fails to respond. I had to revert it back to a speed of 100 to restore its functionality.

What MR firmware are you running?

If you were to search degraded AP uplink (search field at the top of this page) you'll find others have had this issue. Most have remedied the issue by verifying the cable is good (both ends), swapping cables and upgrading their MR firmware.

If you are talking about the ethernet speed, most of the time that is cabling issue. If you have Meraki switches you can run the test tool:https://documentation.meraki.com/MS/Monitoring_and_Reporting/Using_the_Cable_Test_Live_tool

You can also dismount the ap and plug it directly into the switch and try alternative ports that are known working. If you still have the problem on known good ports, the AP has likely been damaged, although you can try a firmware update and/or factory reset on the off chance something is gummed up in its config.

I have seen this happening intermittently when the MR is connected to an MX65. MX65s are almost EOL, and the issue seems to go away when the MX65s are replaced.

As said above, the most likely cause is cabling

If you've got a long cable run or are going through a patch, try connecting the WAP directly to the switch with a short patch cable and see what the speed shows as.

I've also seen this occur on a couple of AP's before they've eventually failed (MR45's for reference).

Hi @MrTaylor ,

I've had MRs go funky in the LAB. But I always verify with a known working switch/cable that provided PoE to another device. Once I've established that, I know the port is faulty.

If your MR56 is connnected to a Meraki Siwtch, you can run a cable test on the connected port. This would show any issues as well..

Hi @MrTaylor,

I also faced the same situation multiple times in my network. When I reboot the AP, everything starts working perfectly for some period, but after that, issues arise. I test the cable as well, then I reset my AP and upgrade the firmware. From that moment, everything is working completely fine, but I don't know what works here: upgrading firmware or resetting the AP.

Try different troubleshooting step by step, and let me know as well what works for you !!
