WLC Mobility Groups between different Software version

Hi,

We have a legacy wireless setup with 5508 controllers and with mainly LAP1242 AP's, running OS 8.0.x

In parallel, we have setup our new 5520 controllers, which will eventually replace the 5508's.

Our goal was to setup both environments in a mobility-group, so cross-controllers roaming would be possible, which could make our migration a bit easier.

issue now:

- 5520 minimum OS = 8.1.x

- 1242 AP's do not support OS 8.1.x

So we can't set both controllers on the same OS. Data sheet stated following:

When controllers in the mobility list use different software versions, Layer 2 or Layer 3 clients have limited roaming support. Layer 2 or Layer 3 client roaming is supported only between controllers that use the same version or with controllers that run versions 4.2.X, 6.0.X, and 7.0.X. See Table 14-2 for more information on mobility support across controllers.

Can someone define what "Limited" roaming support means? What will work, and what won't work?
