Hi experts,

I am managing 3 WLC:

1- WLC 2112 - code version 7.0.235.0

2- WLC 2112 - code version 7.0.235.0

3- WLC 5508 - code version 7.6.130.0 (new purchase)

Is possible to group this 3 WLCs in one Mobility Group

Yes, it should be supported.

Cisco always recommend (n-2) code compatibility. That is if you have 8.x, then 7.6.x & 7.4.x codes as inter-operable in a mobility group.

From RRM perspective, you will have compatibility issues as 7.2.x onward is not compatible with any previous code releases.

please correct me, i understand over your replay that directly this versiosn is not supported, for compatibility to work must be in sequence as is release from CISCO, see the image.

The WLC 2112 with CODE version 7.0.235.0 is only compatible with version such as 7.2.x and 7.4.x right?

The WLC 5508 with CODE version 7.6.130.0 is only compatible win versions such as 8.x and 7.4.x right?

No, that is Cisco's best practice recommendation, but still 7.0 may work with 7.6 in same mobility group. So you should get these up in same mobility group, though it is not the recommended best practice (but keep a migration strategy to move away from 21xx series).

Note that you need to put all your AP to same mobility group ONLY if user roams between those APs & you do not want to drop their sessions while roaming.

So if you have APs in different buildings, that you do not have wireless coverage in between buildings, I would not worry to put all of them in the same mobility group.

Identify geographical area where AP are close & clients are roaming within, put them on to one mobility group.
