I'm using a handheld device. It's command prompt is a little different. I tried typing in ipconfig, but it says bad command. I'm currently using visual basic for some programming with the WLAN device. Do you have any suggestions as to how I would call the MAC address of the device? I need this MAC address for identifying purposes but this is transparent to the user, so he is not expected to go to the command prompt and do anything...

Please help,

Thanks!

Hi...

If there are so many mobile devices within an area, how do we identify who is at where? Can we use the MAC address? Would that be that of the WLAN card or the mobile device, say the PDA itself?

Also, does anyone know how to get the MAC address? I managed to find codes which work on the desktop. The codes however, is not supported on WinCE.

Please help,

Thanks!

You would use the MAC address of the NIC that is plugged into the mobile device. Go to the command prompt and type "ipconfig /all", this will display the physical address or MAC of all NIC's thats on the device.

Okay, I understand now. I found a utility called HPC NetProfile from a company named Phatware that may be helpful. http://www.phatware.com/hpcprof.html Let me know if this is useful. Also, you can download some good networking and other useful utilities for Windows CE from http://www.cewindows.net Good Luck.
