Yes you can enable CleanAir & ED-RRM features in your network to let WLC to make some decisions on RF. Refer this white paper for more details on how they works

Enabling CleanAir and ED-RRM on 5508 WLC (8.0.115.0)

Hello all,

I have a situation where a client is undergoing a major site network overhaul and we are in the process of establishing a new installation with 5520 WLC. However, the current situation for the site WLANs is not the most optimal with scarce coverage in almost all locations and a variety of old 1xxx-series APs and some 2602s.

I'd like to improve the situation by enabling CleanAir and ED-RRM, but I could not find any reference from the documentation if I should expect a service disruption after enabling the features. I checked that the APs should not have issues with each other when CleanAir is enabled, even though there are models without the feature.

So the question is, can I enable CleanAir without disruptions (there are only two AP groups for two sites currently, all the others belong to the main group, so the feature needs to be enabled pretty much globally)?

Best regards,

Jukka

Thank you for the reply and providing the white paper link, hadn't come across it previously.

In short it seems that enabling CleanAir does not have any impact on access point connectivity, but enabling ED-RRM requires the radios to be disabled for the feature to become active and will cause a disruption. Hence will enable the latter on the new controller as best practices suggest anyway.

All the best,
