topic configuring mesh APs on a WLC in Wireless

In the new IOS versions, (7 and above,) 3502 and 3602s can be set to mesh mode. The instructions say let the AP register with the WLC, then set the AP to mesh mode and the AP will reboot in mesh mode.

Is there a way to set an AP to mesh mode that was mounted in position before it registered with the WLC? So the AP is mounted on a pole and powered up with local power. Can it discover the WLC thru its RF without having a CAT6 plugged into its LAN port? Or do you have to plug it into a switch first, let it register with the WLC, set its mode to mesh, and then move it to its intended position?

No... the ap's are in local mode from the factory, so it is important to have an ethernet connection to the access point in order to be able to change the mode the ap is running from local to bridge. The AP will reboot and you will have a new tab named MESH which you can configure the ap as a root ap or mesh ap:

Thanks,

Scott

Help out other by using the rating system and marking answered questions as "Answered"

I understand you can order new APs configured for MESH mode from the factory. BTW, good document break down for the 1550, but could apply for other models as well

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/1550/quick/guide/AP1552_ORDERING_GUIDE.pdf

__________________________________________________________________________________________
"Satisfaction does not come from knowing the solution, it comes from knowing why." - Rosalind Franklin
