Wireless Access points recommendation

We are planning to upgrade our current wireless access points (1200 series) to 3600 series. We would also like to add a wireless access controller to the design to centrally managed those Access Points.

Which Cisco Controller model support those 3600 APs efficiently?

Please provide also resources(white papers) that could help me deploy what we have in mind.

Hi Juan,

The compatibility matrix is a great place to start for this sort of thing:

Whichever Controller you do buy will have to support code 7.2.x or higher if you want to deploy 3600 series APs so depending on how many WAPs you have and if you want a standalone Controller then a Cisco 5508 should suit your needs. For integrated Controllers there are other options too. Hope that helps.

We are planning to upgrade our current wireless access points (1200 series) to 3600 series.

How many? You can use either a 2504 or a 5508.

Will you be using 802.11ac?

Thanks Richard for quick reply and apologies for my late reply and additional questions

We are initially deploying 9 WAPs in one office. We have 3 offices and a Datacenter. connected over a MPLS network.

1- Is it recommended to place the controller in the Datacenter and just WAPs in the offices. So the connectivity between WAPs and controller is routed over MPLS

2- What are integrated controllers?

THis additional information might change recommendation to different WAP and controllers models.
