It is possible to setup a HA between a WLC 5508 and WLC 5520 the 5508 as primary?

You won't be able to run N:N switchful state over (SSO), however, you should be able to run N+1 provided both WLC's run on the same software.

One thing to take note though, the 5508 only support up to version 8.5.xxx, and also just take into account the software you will use on how compatible it will be with the access points in the environment.

Ok, so we won´t be able to setup SSO HA using the redundant port if the WLC are different like this case?

I never try before, but according to this link your 5508 will be in maintenance mode.

Same limitation for 8.8 so, I think is not a good idea try to pairing

SSO requirement is that the wlc are the same model and on the same code. In your scenario, you will not be able to implement SSO.

That link applies for SSO high availability only.

To the original question, if you want the 5508 to be the primary wlc, you can run an N+1 HA solution, permitted both controllers are running the same version 8.5 code and not any other version higher as the 5508 doesn't support any higher software version from 8.6 onwards.
