Cisco AIR-CAP3602I-E-K9 AP factory reset

Hello,

I have to reset a lot of those APs to default settings, and I'd like to ask if I do it correctly:

1. Open the HyperTerminal and link the AP by console cable to COM port.

2. Plug the power cord while holding mode button until I see "Mode button pressed" line.

3. Log in with Cisco/Cisco - in some AP's I don't need to do login.

4. Type enable, password Cisco.

5. Typing commands: debug capwap console cli, erase nvram, write default-config.

6. Typing reload and waiting until the AP boots again.

Is this enough to remove whole previous configuration?

At the end some APs blink green light, some blink red, and other blink red, green, blue and off, do you know why? The have multiple software versions.

If you have access to them via console, below should be good enough

LAP1#debug capwap console cli
LAP1#erase /all nvram
LAP1#reload

If this is autonomous IOS then the command "wr er default" will do fine.

If it is lightweight AP "capwap ap hostname <ap_name>" command should work.

LAP1#capwap ap ?
controller lwapp primary controller
dot1x Configure the dot1x username and password
hostname Configure ap hostname
ip lwapp ap ip command
log-server Configure the syslog server where all LWAPP errors will be
logged
primary-base Primary Controller
primed-timer primed-timer enable/disable
secondary-base Secondary Controller
tertiary-base Tertiary Controller

In case you get below error, you can try workaround provided

LAP1#capwap ap hostname LAP2
ERROR!!! Command is disabled.

If you get that error, first use "debug capwap console cli" & then use "hostname <ap_name>" command as Leo suggested.

Also if they're CAPWAP then make sure you disconnect them before reloading otherwise there's a good chance they'll just join the controller and pick up a configuration from the controller again (depends how you're joining them to controller). That might explain why you're seeing different results after reload.

Those APs don't have a "configure terminal" configuration mode.

I deleted some configuration files to set defaults and luckily the host names also turned to "AP" followed by the MAC adress, which is enough for me 🙂

Thank you all for help, I'm glad it was possible to do it all using just a console cable and a terminal, without the controller 😉
