Cisco AIR-WLC2106-K9 Dropping remote AP's

I have a Cisco wireless controller 2106 (AIR-WLC2106-K9). With 4 AP's connected, all are AIR-LAP1041N-A-K9 , 2 locally and 2 at a remote site.

Any time there is a power failure, network connection down, backup generator test activated, the local AP's re sync up, but the remote AP's get cut off and stay off until the remote AP's are rebooted. We had an issue with a UPS, which gave us a lot of occurances recently, fixed that issue, but even when a ISP would go out, the remote AP's would never reconnect until a manual reboot of the AP's

Could this be an issue with the controller timing out the connection, then not allowing a reconnect? Is there anyway to adjust the time/packet loss limit for a time out or anything like that to see if this will help within the controller to get the remote AP's to sync back up?

This is almost certainly a software defect, but the 2106's and 1041's are pretty old, so not sure if you can still get newer software for them.

A nice solution would be a Cisco 2504 (replace for 2106) and 4 x 2702i's. This would give you 802.11ac support, and a vastly upgraded system. It would be a gigantic step forward in technology compared to what you are using at the moment.

Thank you for the quick repy!

Thank you for the quick repy!

Yeah I understand that these are ancient techs.

We are planning an overhaul, but thought I may find a fix until we replace the hardware fully.

So I will try to find a newer version for the controller, and see if that does the trick. The issue will be very infrequent now that we fixed the UPS issue, but if I can get a fix, it will reduce some down time when I am not on site when it goes down.

The latest maintenance release that seems to support all your hardware is:

Release 7.0.220.0 MD

If you have a Cisco maintenance contract I would try going to this.

I will see what I can do about renewing a maintenance contract, although I may not, considering I am going to be redesigning the wifi system soon....
