topic you can configure the AP in Wireless

you can configure the AP radio to select data rates on the basis of range or throughput. When you configure the AP radio to select data rates for range, the AP sets the lowest data rate to Basic and the other rates to Enabled. In this way, the AP can cover a wider area. However, the data rate comes down as the distance from the AP to the client increases. If you configure the AP radio for throughput, the AP sets all data rates to Basic. This configuration ensures a consistent throughput throughout the coverage area.

Refer to the Configuring Radio Data Rates section of Configuring Radio Settings for more information on how to configure the data rates on the AP radio.

Bottlenecking at APs?

We've recently offered users free wifi to use while at work for streaming, browsing, etc... I tested for a couple of weeks before go-live with absolutely no issues. Since go-live, it has become so slow that it's unuseable. They have a 50Mb/s circuit to use and aren't even coming close to maxing it out (~5mb/s avg). I'm thinking maybe my AP's aren't configured correctly to handle this much traffic and was wondering if someone can offer recommendations on how to configure them for this type of traffic. There are other SSIDs on the APs that are not having any degradation. Of course everyone is trying to stream music now and I'm sure this is what's causing the issue.

Thanks for your time,

Do you have WLC managed APs? If so what is the software version you running & what are the AP models ? How many client can you see in a given AP when they have problems of video streams ?

Yes, WLC version is 7.4.100.0.

I'd say around 20 users max at each AP. Also, users aren't streaming video, just audio that I know of.

AP Model is 1262N-A-K9

I would upgrade to v7.4.140.0 since that code is deferred. 20 users is not bad at all. You might want to also post your show wlan <wlan id>.

First of all I would upgrade this WLC code to 8.0.120.0 (the current code listed defferred and not supported by TAC any longer)

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn80mr2.html

I am not saying your issue is software code, but will get this done first and baseline with 8.0.x code.

HTH

I don't see anything wrong with the configuration on he WLAN. Have you been able to upgrade to v8.0.x? Can you test by hard coding the client to 2.4ghz and test throughput and then test on the 5ghz only. Make sure you setup the device to only use one band at a time. What devices also is having the issues.
