Hi Derrick,

Yes you can do it but its not a recommended solution to attach AP directly to WLC.

If you want to join AP, then you need to setup a dhcp scope on the wlc and make sure that it must be on the same network as the wlc management. The ap will get an ip address from the pool and join the wlc as long as everything else is configured correctly.

Regards

2504 - Directly Connected AP Configuration Examples

Hi Folks,

With the advent of 7.4 directly connected APs were supported on the two PoE ports on the 2504 controllers. However, I haven't been able to get this configuration to work, nor have I been able to find sufficient documentation that supports this configuration.

I'm running 8.0.120.0 on my 2504 and have a pair of 1702I that I'd like to attempt in this configuration. I understand it's not going to be a best practice but was hoping to at least do some testing with the configuration in my home lab. I only have a 10/100 PoE switch and haven't picked up any power injectors yet to utilize them on my gigabit non-poe switch.

Has anyone configured this successfully yet?

Thanks,

I hadn't thought to configure

I hadn't thought to configure the DHCP server directly on the controller for this. I should have realized that when the debug on the switch didn't show any dhcp packets coming from the subnet. I had just assumed the packets were being bridged to the management network directly.

Thanks!
