Hi guys,

is there a way to force a client (laptop) to connect to a specific Access Point, even if there are several APs configured to broadcast the same SSID?

Here are some more details:

There is a WLC 5508 with new mobility feature enabled working as Mobility Controller (MC)

A 3850 switch is configured as Mobility Agent (MA)

There is a 1600 and a 3600 Access Point joined to the 3850 switch

Both Access Points broadcast the a test SSID but a laptop must connect the 1600 AP and another laptop to the 3600 AP.

Broadcasting different SSIDs on each Access Point is not an option, it has to be the same SSID on several APs and the clients must be bind to a specific AP.

Thanks in advance

You can't do this in this environment (Light Weight) as client roaming decision is made by client. There are no control over this on WLC/AP.

HTH

Rasika

*** Pls rate all useful responses ****

there're few options.

#Tweak the Datarates on AP, typically disable lower datarates, this way client can't see the AP that's far away.

#on client, Change the roaming aggressiveness setting and or increase threshold.

#If required, Limit no. of client connected per radio on that AP that's available on WLC.
